Lily's Big Day

Yesterday was a really big day for Lily. She was presented the Good Citizenship Award and the White Knoll Elementary, Leader of the Pack award! She was the only one from kindergarten. She was interviewed and broadcast through the school, and got to get out of class for ice cream sandwiches and a movie. I am so proud of her and her amazingly big heart. She really is as beautiful on the inside as she is the out. I am honored to be her mother.

A Better Day

I've been kind of blue lately, and today just didn't stink at all. Travis, the children and I, went swimming tonight at our neighbors and spent some time in the yard. Lily is getting better and better at swimming and she is almost as proud of herself, as I am of her. Charlie continues to be the comedian. He must have yelled, "CANNONBALL!" a hundred times as he jumped in the pool. We grilled hot dogs and I made the best homemade chili yet. Travis has to work tomorrow,so I think I'm going to load up the kids and take them to see my grandparents at the lake for the day. More swimming equals good sleep!

Life is about change

Change means movement. Movement means friction. Only in the frictionless vacuum of a nonexistent abstract world can movement or change occur without that abrasive friction of conflict. -Saul Alinsky

Change. I guess it does mean movement and movement means friction. In less than 3 weeks, my Lily starts kindergarten. What a milestone, what a big event, what a blow to a mother's heart, what a shock to my system. While I am so excited for Lily, I am finding myself blue at the thought of it. Thank goodness I have Travis who keeps me sane and loves me through all the pings and pains I am feeling!

Charlie Turns 3!

I've been away from blogging for a long time, but had the perfect reason to return,
my sweet, beautiful, funny, amazing little man is 3! We celebrated his birthday on Sunday with famliy and close friends. Charlie wanted a construction cake, so I made him just that! It is so hard to believe that my baby is such a big guy now. Charlie Laffin, you make my heart swell everytime I look at you. I never knew my heart could love one little funny, redhead so much. You are the answer to my prayer and the song in my heart. Happy Birthday!

Stitches

Well it finally happened. Sunday afternoon was spent at Lexington Urgent Care, getting stitches in Lily's forehead. We went to church that morning, came home and as I was changing Charlie's clothes, Lily fell in the hall, hitting her head on the corner of the door frame. The gash in her head didn't look that bad at first blush, but I knew she was going to need stitches to close it. When we got to urgent care, the doctor showed me how wrong I was, when I saw she was cut to the bone. We were praying for the painless, quick liquid stitches, but no luck. Lily was very upset and afraid but did amazing and I am so proud of her. The entire time she was getting the stitches, the doctor, nurses and myself were going on and on about how brave she was and what a great job she was doing and how proud we all were. On about the 3rd stitch, we were praising her and Lily said, "I'm not ding good, I'm being a JERK!" We all started laughing and telling her that she wasn't a jerk at all and it is OK to be afraid and to cry sometimes. :)

I'll take her back sometime over the weekend to have the stitches removed. Hopefully, this will be the last time.

Waiting on 5

As most everyone knows, our daughter Lily's birthday is on Christmas and this year she will be 5. Most people think she must get slighted in the gift department every year, this is not the case! I was talking to Lily over the weekend and asked her if she was ready for Christmas, she said, "Yes I am, but I'm really just waiting on 5!" I thought it was really cute. Her birthday party will be this weekend at The Mad Platter. I am making her birthday cake like always and this year I am tackling a princess crown. Wish me luck!
